Welcome to The Blog at Prestige Esthetic! First, can we just say how incredibly honored we are to have you here?!

With all the training academies and pop-up training events out there, it can be really challenging to know who's who and whats legit. I know, because I've personally been in your shoes.
Over the course of my 16+ years in this industry, I've literally spent tens of thousands of moolah on additional training courses in the hopes that I'd increase my income. Now to be fair, most were pretty good. I learned a lot and was able to quickly apply my new found knowledge to my job. However, there were times where I experienced that feeling, when you attend a course only to feel like either it's a sham or it's something I just didn't really enjoy. I can attest to the 2010 classic lashes course I took. I was super excited about it, mostly because I thought I'd be applying these lashes to my own lashes (lol!!) but because I thought I'd be making killer additional income. Here's the reality, I hated applying lashes! No matter how good I got at it, I just didn't enjoy it. On top of that, the area I was located at the time was some tiny, out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere town with low average incomes. It wasn't until recently where spending $150+ on lashes monthly, became acceptable.
So what are we to do? Honestly, it comes down to find out what you enjoy! Yes, you should take into consideration what your clients want, but, if they're asking you for services you don't enjoy, you won't have as much success. We need to have passion about what we're doing because that's really what success is; doing work that doesn't feel like work! The real beauty of our industry is that we have SO many choices in the kind of additional skills we can offer our clients. The vast majority of classes will be of benefit for you but here are some things to look out for when looking for a company to train with;
Are they accredited? I feel like this is a pretty big deal because you want to both assure your clients and your peers that the class you have taken is legit and that certificate means something.
Do they offer on-going support? Let's face it, sometimes when we take a class, it can be a little overwhelming with all the information there is to absorb over the course of a day or two. We should be able to reach out to the company at any given time when we have questions or concerns.
What supplies do you get? Will you be getting everything you need to get started now? This is important with skill based learning. How can you succeed in the practical part of the training if the supplies and equipment are either non-existent or sub-par?
How will you market this new skill? If your clients have never heard of this, they will be leery at first and not as willing to try it out. You need to have a solid marketing strategy (or more) to get this new service out there to the people who will gladly pay top dollar.
What if you decide it's not for you? This can be a tricky one because as I mentioned earlier, sometimes things don't turn out to be as exciting as we would expect! The good news is, with a high ticket service (such as Hyaluron Pen treatments) you can quickly recoup your class expenses if you decide after a couple weeks it's just not for you. Make sure you'll feel comfortable offering the service so you can at least make your money back if need be.
I'm sure you have stories of your own, or maybe you're brand new to the industry.
Either way, I want you to know something: I created this company out of both passion for what this industry has to offer (seriously exciting things coming out ALL the time!!) and, because honestly, I felt like WE as professionals deserve better. Classes should be taught by professionals who know what the heck they're talking about. Who've been in the trenches and worked out all of the kinks over years, not weeks. We know what it's like to both struggle and have success which is why it's so darn important to us that you get the best tuition possible. We care about the supplies you use, because if you trained with us, it has our name on it. You deserve to have the kind of clients that rave about you to all their friends, and come back for more services. It's a very rewarding feeling and it justifies all the hard work we put in day in and day out.
You can bet we'll be keeping sh!t real on this blog and bringing to you our honest opinions on happenings in the beauty industry, so, we hope you'll stick around! Until next time,
Bianca
